Welcome to my life in Thailand.
The title of this post was inspired by the two feelings that stayed with me consistently throughout my 10-day trip to Thailand.
I have never travelled with a backpack before, but I always thought “backpackers” looked really cool and well-traveled, so I was pretty excited when my friends told me that they would all be traveling with backpacks this year. Naturally, I had to join in, because I didn’t want to be that one girl with the suitcase (embarrassing). I went to the sporting store and bought the first one that caught my eye, a bright blue one that also happened to be on sale.
Another first for my travel lifestyle: I didn’t make any plans. I usually do tons of research on the place I’m going…(Pintresting things like “Thailand in 8 days” etc.) – but for this trip, I decided to just take it day by day. We planned out the main things (how long to stay in each city, bought flights, booked hotels), but we didn’t have any set “things to do”. I’ve now come to realize that I prefer this way of traveling more than trying to stick to a rigid schedule. It’s so much more relaxing to take things day by day, meet other travelers, and get suggestions as you mosey along. You might even pick up a new friend or two along the way! (We picked up 6, haha).
Over the course of 10 days, we visited Chiangmai, Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, and Bangkok. My travel buddies consisted of a main group: Gabi and Danny- my good friends/very adventurous couple, Ashley- my longtime friend who conveniently shows up to every trip that I’ve planned this year, and David- a new friend who taught me all about my GoPro, (which I became obsessed with). Plus a few new friends who we met along the way 🙂
